History
Curriculum Intent
History is the world's collective memory - a lense through which we understand who we are and how we came to be.
Our History curriculum empowers students to establish their own informed opinions by critically analysing historical evidence and interpretation. As they journey through the past, they engage with its complexities, questioning the lessons it offers and developing the skills to assess causation, consequence, change, continuity, similarity, and difference over time. They also learn to recognise the significance of events within broader historical narratives.
We strive to make history meaningful by connecting global, national, and local stories to the world students live in today. By thoughtfully weaving in the experiences of marginalised groups, we offer a fuller and more inclusive picture of the past, helping students understand the diverse contributions that have shaped society.
Through this approach, learners develop core historical skills — evaluating sources, understanding how interpretations are constructed, and applying historical thinking to contemporary issues. Ultimately, our students leave the classroom better equipped to navigate the challenges and opportunities of the present with the insight that only a strong understanding of history can provide.
