Careers, Pathways & Employability
At The Hazeley Academy, we believe every young person should leave our Academy well prepared for life beyond their studies. Alongside achieving strong academic qualifications, we are committed to developing Character, Confidence and Creativity so that our students become well-rounded individuals who are ready to succeed, be happy and contribute positively to the wider community.
High-quality careers education, information, advice and guidance play a key role in this vision. Our careers programme is carefully designed in line with the Gatsby Benchmarks of Good Career Guidance, ensuring a structured and progressive approach from Years 7 to 12. Through this, students gain access to clear information, impartial advice and meaningful experiences that help them understand the full range of opportunities available.
Students can access Careers Information through a cross-curricular approach including:
- PSHE programme
- Careers talks and assemblies
- Annual Careers Fair Yr8, Yr10, Yr11 and Post-16
- Curriculum Links
- Enrichment
- Speed networking – Yr7 to Yr10
- Extra-Curricular opportunities –Trips and Visits
- Employer and alumni engagement
- Careers appointments, workshops and drop-in sessions
- Work Experience Yr10 and Yr12
Through these experiences, students are supported to:
- Develop self-awareness, recognising their strengths and areas for development
- Build employability and essential soft skills
- Explore different career pathways and opportunities
- Make informed and timely decisions about their future
- Take responsibility for their own career journey
- Use available opportunities to prepare for working life
All students in Years 7–11 benefit from at least one personalised guidance meeting with a Careers Advisor, Form Tutor, Progress Leader or a member of the Pathways team. These discussions help students plan their next steps and set targets to support their aspirations. Additional support is provided for students with an Education Health Care Plan (EHCP) to ensure informed and inclusive decision-making.
Our goal is to inform, inspire and motivate students so they can confidently plan their futures and recognise how the decisions they make today shape their tomorrow.
The careers programme is regularly evaluated every half-term and formally reviewed on an annual basis to ensure it continues to meet the needs of all learners.

Unifrog
What is Unifrog? Unifrog is a user-friendly platform that brings all the available information into one comprehensive place and helps students make the best choices, and submit the strongest applications. They help students compare every university course, every apprenticeship, and Further Education courses - then apply successfully. Parents can also get involved - they have their own Unifrog accounts.
All students in Years 7-13 have access to Unifrog. This is a web-based tool that students are registered on. Over their time at The Hazeley Academy, they will use this to record their activities and the competencies they develop, which will show all the soft interpersonal skills they need for the world of work. They will be able to search pathways for Post-16 and Post-18 which includes Sixth Form, College, Apprenticeships and Universities. Their form tutors will use the information on Unifrog for their pathway conversations and to support their decision-making for GCSE, Post-16 and Post-18.
Work Experience - Year 10
All students in Year 10 have the opportunity to do a week’s work placement. This needs to be arranged independently. There is a database with our external partner Proactive whereby students search for companies who have previously taken work experience students.
Completing work experience gives students an opportunity to experience the world of work and develop the skills and qualities they need to thrive in the work place.
