Duke of Edinburgh Award Update

2020 has seen many challenges already, this was particularly apparent when many DofE participants were unable to complete so many elements of the award due to Covid 19, preventing activities like Volunteering, Physical activity, New skill based activities and of course the team expedition and overnight camping.

DofE adapted as quickly as possible to allow peoples' awards to continue with some adaptations. DofE with a difference was launched to allow participants to complete DofE Sections as you stay at home to stay safe.  All you need to do is log on to your eDofE App or website, set some new goals and begin to complete your new section.

Please see this link for Ideas of what activities you can do for each section while staying safe in these uncertain times. - https://www.dofe.org/dofewithadifference/activities

The Next Steps

The school have this year invested in a dedicated DofE team working solely on this project to ensure everyone can complete or to take part in many elements of DofE.

Myself, Mrs Gibbons joined the team at The Hazeley Academy with a clear vision of engaging parents/carers and students in the ethos of DofE and to manage and encourage all students throughout their award.

I bring 5 years’ experience in managing DofE within youth organisations and many miles of outdoor adventures. I am holding an Ed Talk on 30th September.

Mrs O’Sullivan who has been a strong member of the Hazeley Team for many years will also be assisting in supporting our students to archieve their award, as well as the support from some of our staff volunteers and PE department.

The Future for DofE at The Hazeley Academy

The Ultimate Goal for DofE at Hazeley is to ensure all Year 9 students partake in elements of DofE and archieve their Bronze award. We hope the next steps for these students will be to progress onto a Silver and Gold DofE award.

The future for higher level projects and opportunities for students to achieve their Gold and Silver DofE award are very exciting, so watch this space for updates and new opportunities.

Dates of expeditions for the current Year 11 Silver team, Year 10 Bronze and what will be our new Year 9 Bronze team will be out soon once we can ensure these activities are safe for everyone – these will be communicated via school comms.
