Recharge, Reflect and Re-imagine

What a different feeling it is going into this Easter break compared to last year. It certainly was a very bumpy year, a tad scary on occasions, but as a 5D Hazeley community we have grown closer and stronger.

I hope everyone finds the time to recharge and reflect on the success, reimagining the opportunities for our children’s future. I also hope that the links to the documents and reminder of key routines below will help this.

Celebratory Newsletter- Please take a few moments to enjoy our first, of what we hope will become a tradition of termly celebratory newsletters. Celebration Newsletter - 26 March 2021

Basketball and Netball Academies- as you may have heard as part of the 5Dimensions Trust, Hazeley is working in partnership with Shenley Brook End School to launch national level Basketball and Netball Academies. Click here to find out more - Development of the Basketball and Netball Academies

Extracurricular- Our children need to play, have fun, move around, and reconnect. Our extracurricular programme will be offering more opportunities after Easter. Click here to find out more -  The Hazeley Academy - Extra Curricular

Ramadan– The Hazeley community is richer for its diversity, and as always we will be supporting students with Ramadan. Students have access to quiet space prayer rooms and these are supported by staff. Students should make their form tutor aware if they intend to use one. Years 7, 8, 10, 11 and 13 have a prayer room in C corridor and years 9 and 11 have a prayer room in S18 and S19. All year groups have access at lunchtime when they are on different lunch breaks at different times to enable social distancing. If you have any queries or questions, please contact Ms McKenzie, at lmckenzie@thehazeleyacademy.com.

Travel to school – Spring is here! Please encourage your child to walk or cycle to school. If they must travel by car then please consider helping them enjoy a short walk and reduce congestion by using one of the potential drop off/ pick up points near to the school. Click here to find out more - Drop off points

COVID-19 Testing – Please don’t forget to keep up the home testing over the holidays. A reminder can be accessed here - Home Testing Kits.

If your child does test positive over the Easter holiday, please do still contact the COVID line so we can work with track and trace to keep our community safe - 07387064221.

NCS – A Brilliant Opportunity for Year 11 Students- If your son or daughter is currently in Y11 and want to have a fun and productive summer taking part in the National Citizenship Service then click here to find out more -  The Hazeley Academy - School Communications

Free School Meal Voucher Provision for Easter Holidays

We have issued Free School Meal vouchers for the final time, for the Easter period, as the government scheme comes to an end and is replaced with the ‘Holiday and Activities Programme’.  However, the changes mean that funding is only available to support one week of the two-week break, therefore we have issued vouchers to the value of £15 per student to cover this period via the Edenred portal.

Please remember to check your emails, including your junk mail, for the notification.  If you have any queries relating to the issuing of vouchers, please email finance@thehazeleyacademy.com.

And finally, a reminder of some important routines which help our community unite, run safely and smoothly:

Attendance

In order to keep students as safe as possible please note they will not be permitted to leave the Academy during the school day for appointments without prior consent. Please either email attendance@thehazeleyacademy.com or telephone our attendance line on 01908 555633, the main Academy line on 01908 555620 or alternatively, a note from parent/carer in the student planner.

Punctuality – Being on time is an important life skill, please support your child to overcome any barriers as we really want to avoid sanctions, whilst maintaining expectations. As always please contact your child’s form tutor or Mr Mortimer if there are any genuine long-term barriers – omortimer@thehazeleyacademy.com .

Uniform- The differences between us make us stronger and our uniform unites us. Please play your part by making sure that your child returns to school in correct uniform after Easter (including face coverings). As always if you have any challenges then please email your child’s form tutor or Mr Mortimer and we will do all we can to work with you to overcome them. The link to uniform expectations can be found here - The Hazeley Academy - Uniform (Years 7 to 11)

Have a lovely Easter and thank you for working so closely with Hazeley.

Mr Nelson
