IB Diploma
This two-year course allows students to study a broad range of subjects as part of a holistic programme with a particular emphasis on independent learning and a questioning approach to knowledge. The IB Diploma programme is popular with students who find it difficult to restrict their choice of subjects to just four AS Levels. It is a challenging course that is particularly suited to those who enjoy the freedom to think beyond the confines of the exam syllabus. However the courses are accessible to all students who are well-motivated and willing to work hard and gain good study skills.
Offering this international qualification fits with the Academy’s aim to prepare young people to shape the world in the 21st century.
Diploma Programme Overview
The IB Learner Profile is central to the the Diploma Progamme. It is a set of ideals to inspire, motivate and focus students and their teachers towards a common purpose that is worked out in the courses that are followed.
The Diploma Programme is structured to educate students in a broad range of subjects but also to provide them with the opportunity to study selected subjects in depth. One subject is chosen from each of Groups 1 to 6. Students study three of these subjects at Higher Level and three at Standard Level.
In addition to their six chosen subjects, all IB Diploma students study the Theory of Knowledge and write an Extended Essay on a title that particularly interests them. Personal development is encouraged through their participation in the Creativity, Action and Service (CAS) programme.
