Pearson BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate in Children’s Play, Learning and Development
Students who study this course will cover 4 different units, 2 of which are external exams, the other 5 are coursework units. These units include 3 mandatory units which cover: Children’s Development– how and why children develop; Communication– the sequence of children’s speech, communication, language, literacy and numeracy development; Play and Learning– the types of play and the different experiences that children should have. Students will then study one of the following three areas: Physical Development Care and Health needs – the role of early years professionals in meeting children’ s needs; Working with Parents and others in Early Years– the role of parents and the factors affecting parenting styles; The Early Years Foundation Stage- the principles, themes and aims of the EYFS. Included within these units students must take part in 50 hours of work experience within the sector.
The qualification carries UCAS points and is recognised by higher education providers and will allow students to progress on to a wide range of degree programmes, as well as allowing students to access apprenticeships in Early Years. It also provides students with valuable employability skills such as communication, problem solving skills, collaborative working, adaptability and resilience.
