Principals Blog 15th January 2018 – It is all about learning

It is all about learning

One of the many great things about our collaboration with Shenley Brook End School and the partner Primary Schools is the joint focus on learning.

Over the next few years staff training and development will be focusing on the way in which we can further increase levels of engagement and excitement. Central to this will be our adaption of the work of Mike Hughes and his Magenta Principles. They link seemly with our values of Character, Confidence and Creativity and feel a natural fit to the next stage of the development of our academy.

The Magenta Principles are described by Mike himself as “an umbrella phrase that refers to a philosophy and approach to teaching based upon the premise that learning should be both exciting and engaging”. More specifically the phrase represents a pedagogy (discipline that deals with the theory and practice of teaching) underpinned by an unshakable belief that:

– Learning is a consequence of thinking …. therefore our job is to get students to think

– Language is central to thinking….. therefore our job is to get students to talk

– Learning is an active process….. therefore our job is to get students ‘doing’

The adoption of these principles will not be imposed upon the staff and students in a revolutionary way; they will very much evolve as we enrich, sharpen, excite and improve what we already do resulting in them becoming part of the fabric of Hazeley.

It is an exciting time to be part of the Hazeley community
